Maltby U15 beats Marton U15 by 8 wickets
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2007-05-08 09:00:48

Maltby U15 restricted Marton U15 to just 71 from their 20 overs. Captain Phil Horsman bowled particularly well taking 1 wicket for just 4 runs in 4 overs. Maltby’s reply got off to a poor start losing two early wickets before Dan Jackson (46 not out) and Liam Dawes (21 not out) steered Maltby to an 8 wicket win.

Maltby 1st beats Crathorne by 31 runs
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2007-05-08 09:01:10

In the Langbaurgh league Maltby 1st beat Crathorne by 31 runs. Maltby batted first and found it hard work. Simon Close top scored with 60 before Salim Khan hit a rapid 30. Maltby ended on 160 for 7. Crathorne lost wickets on a regular basis with Salim Khan taking 5 for 46. Hilton Wordsworth bowled very economically taking 2 for 30 in 11.1 overs. Salim Khan completed an excellent performance with two catches – the first, a one handed catch to his right at gulley, was a stunner!

Maltby U13 beats Marske
Submitted by: Martin Barber
2007-05-21 19:24:11

Maltby u13’s recorded their first victory of the season with a comprehensive victory at Marske. Our talented batting side finally delivered with 319 for 4 and all batsmen contributed. Richard “ Boiler” Hodgsons and Jordan “JC “ Campbells cultured strokeplay was matched at the other end of the culture scale by the rustic hitting of Dan “ 3 shredded wheat “Tomlin who hit 3 glorious fours before the excitement got too much when he holed out to mid off from an ugly slog.

For a very talented fielding side the ground fielding was not up to standard and the bowling was wayward with 18 wides yielding 36 runs to the opposition. Nevertheless a sound victory and with bowling practice at the top of the list this week we hope to continue the progress.

Marske beats Maltby U15
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2007-05-28 09:40:50

Maltby better first on a wet wicket and struggled to gain any momentum. Only Dan Francis (13) and Joe Foley (17) reached double figures. The final score of 56 for 7 looked to be inadequate.

The team made a great effort and exterted good pressure from the start. All five bowlers bowled well and with wickets falling on a regular basis the Marske batsmen started to panic. Two run outs followed and when the 20th over began Marske needed 4 runs to win. A square cut for 3 from the third ball tied the scores and Marske secured victory (57 for 6) with two balls to spare.

Maltby U15 beat Great Ayton
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2007-05-28 09:56:39

Starting with nine fielders (Joe Foley had twisted his ankle and Jake Allen had gone to Marske) - Maltby's bowlers were bashed to all corners of the field. Jake eventually returned from Marske but made little difference as Ayton, lead by Seamus Doughty's excellent 60 not out set a daunting target of 142 without loss. The Maltby reply was excellent with all batsmen working hard to rotate the strike from the first ball. Dan Jackson hit 7 4s and a six in his 51. Phil Horsman (24 not out) and Dan Fancis (15 not out) batted well together and secured victory with two overs to spare. Maltby scored 146 for 4.

Maltby U15 beat Billingham
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2007-05-30 14:41:09

A crushing victory over Billingham. Dan Crofts (36) and Dan Jackson (50 retired) got the side off to a great start before Liam Dawes (46 not out) and Phil Horsman (28 not out) set Billingham a huge target. Liam Dawes received the news that he needed six for his 50 with one ball to go. On a field as big as Maltby he was always going to struggle although he did hit the ball some distance in a valiant attempt.

None of the Billingham batsmen reached double figures and found the Maltby bowling attack too hot to handle. Phil Horsman and Dan Jackson both taking two wickets. Rob Priestman took the last wicket (stumped by Andy Mee) with his third ball.

Maltby's U13 Out Cricket Win Through Again
Submitted by: Phil Broomhead
2007-06-14 16:42:37

Having put the home side into bat Normanby Hall struggled to take wickets giving away over 50 runs off the first 8 overs, Normanby's Purvis then took three wickets in one over to to apply the brakes. Maltby lost three more wickets in reaching their final score of 310 runs giving a net total of 262 with the openers Jordan Campbell and Matty Crofts joint top scoring with 12.

The Maltby bowling and fielding was excellent keeping the Normanby opening pair to single figures off their four overs, indeed it wasn't until the third pair came to the wicket that the scoring rate picked up with Birch in particular taking advantage of Maltby bowling too short. By then Campbell had taken an excellent stinging catch off the bowling of David WIlliams who then bowled two batsmen before Campbell poached another catch out of the hands of debutante Jack Preston. Maltby continued to apply the pressure andrestricted the visitors to a final net score of 242. David WIlliams ending with the excellent figures of 4 for 13 off his 3 overs, Jonny Cox being the other wicket taker. Maltby beat Normanby Hall by 20 runs.

Normanby Hall defeat Maltby U15
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2007-06-14 16:51:04

After a very positive start to the season the U15 came back to earth with a bump at Normanby Hall who have only lost once so far this season. A very good Normanby team bowled well and took a couple of excellent catches to knock the heart out of the Maltby batting line up. Phil Horsman batted well for his 12 but received little support. Andy Milbourne, Rob Priestman and Greg Oxley batted well at the end to move the score onto a slightly more respectable 64. We needed early wickets and Normanby’s opening batsmen both batted very well, using the pace of the ball as Phil Horsman and Dan Jackson tried in vain for an early wicket. Next Sunday Normanby Hall will visit Maltby in the Greave’s Cup so hopefully we will put up a stronger challenge on home soil.

Maltby 1st Team defeat Kirby Sigston
Submitted by: Chris Hall
2007-06-14 16:53:34

Maltby went joint top of the league with what turned out to be a relatively comfortable victory. After a slow start, Hilton “Paris” Wordsworth and Chris “Crocker” Barber then shared in a crucial partnership to push Maltby over the 200 mark. Paris with his 3rd league 50 of the season and Crocker finishing agonisingly close on 49 not out. The game was in the balance as Sigston reached 60 – 0 fairly quickly, but Paris then got rid of both openers one of the wickets courtesy of a blinding catch from Crocker. Maltby then ripped through the rest of the Sigston side bowling them out for 125 including some wonderful fielding with 3 run outs (2 direct hits) with Paris finishing with the outstanding figures of 7 for 48.

Maltby succeed in hard fought local derby
Submitted by: Martin Barber
2007-08-03 12:50:41

On a cold evening Maltby batted first amassing a total of 257 for 2 with Jack “Black eye” Hodgson again top scoring with 18 including 3 sweetly struck boundaries. Closey, his batting partner played well contributing 6 to the last wicket partnership. A chip off the old block, we saw the strong bottom hand coming into play ,not to say the odd slog through mid wicket.

Similarities to his father vanished in the first over when Alex took a wicket with his first ball, the very first ball of the Yarm reply. Wickets fell regularly with Sam Rogers taking 2 for 6 and Yarm ended on a net 205.

Well done boys a creditable second victory.

End of season report 1st XI 2007
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2008-01-07 17:38:27

2007 was a year in which Maltby 1st XI was a very strong side, or at least that was the case when everyone was available. The season could be split into three thirds. The first saw the team win 4, lose 2 and tie 1 game to be very much in contention. The middle third was devastated by appalling weather with very few games starting yet alone finishing. The final run saw some great wins against Broughton and Kirby Sigston but a final day defeat at Stafford Place. The tied George Clemmit Memorial Cup Final at Norton is a game that will stay in the memory for many years. The season started with defeat against the eventual joint champions East Harlsey. Paul Hornsby took 4 for 40 to restrict the visitors to 156 for 6. A partnership of 74 between Hilton Wordsworth (54) and Tom Aldus (23) for the 4th wicket gave Maltby hope before the tail failed to wag and Maltby fell short by 21 runs. Crathorne would also be joint champions, but Maltby defeated them by 31 runs. Simon Close top scoring with 60. Salim Khan took 5 for 46 as Crathorne were all out for 129. The highest scoring game in the club’s history occurred on 12 May at Thimbleby. Chris Barber (65) and Salim Khan (53) top scored in a mammoth 242 for 6. Thimbleby put in a great effort to finish on 221 for 9. Salim Khan again took 5 wickets (for 81). Hilton Wordsworth (70*) and David Lamb (57*) produced an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership of 130 as Maltby scored 215 for 3 against Skelton Castle. Jack Aldus took 4 for 40 as Skelton were dismissed for 163. The third successive score of 200+ came at Stafford Place with Chris Hall (119) reaching his second Langbaurgh League century. Unfortunately this proved inadequate with Stafford reaching the target with two wickets and four balls to spare. Another 200+ score came against Kirby Sigston with Hilton Wordsworth (53) and Chris Barber (49*) making the main contribution to a total of 211 for 6. Hilton then went on to take 7 for 45 including the prize wicket of David Thompson (a stunning catch at point by Chris Barber) as Sigston were all out for 125. Chris Barber reached 49 again before being run out against Broughton and Kirby. Howard Leng took 6 for 36 as Maltby were restricted to 177. At 140 for 2 Broughton appeared to be cruising to victory but by the start of the 40th over they were 173 for 4. Two, one and nought were scored from the first three balls. The fourth ball saw Matthew Smith stumped and the very next ball had Harry Newbould caught behind. The final ball was pushed down leg side and the batsman scampered through for a single to tie the game. The following week saw the onset of rain. Crathorne could only score 116 before the Maltby reply was delayed by torrential rain. After much mopping up the innings was able to start but Maltby had no possible chance of reaching the target in the remaining overs. After losing two early wickets Chris Francis (19*) and Simon Close (2) scored just 24 runs from 18 overs with the game ending on 27 for 3. The following week was washed out without a ball being bowled, and two weeks later Thimbleby had reached 46 for 2 when rain stopped play. The following week was also rained off. Stafford Place would finish the season fighting for their Division 1 survival. Dave Metcalf had moved to Australia and it was a very weak side that struggled to score 66. Hilton Wordsworth (5 for 19) and Alex Baines (3 for 20) did most of the damage. David Lamb finished unbeaten on 28 as Maltby won by 7 wickets. Alex Baines (for 54) and Simon Close (for 32) both took 4 wickets as Broughton & Kirby struggled to reach 163. At 27 for 5 the game appeared lost but a partnership of 115 between Simon Close (50) and Chris Barber (47) almost stole the game. When Simon was out in the 37th over and Chris in the 39th the tail was unable to complete the task and Broughton won by 6 runs. Once again the batting failed to perform against East Harlsey. Paul Frank (64) scoring more than half of the total of 127. Chris Barber took 3 for 30 but couldn’t prevent Harlsey cruising to a comfortable 6-wicket win. Another poor batting display saw the team crash from 55 without loss to 109 all out against Crathorne. The visitors lost only two wickets in reaching the target. Runs returned at Thimbleby with Chris Hall scoring an unbeaten 82 (batting at number 7). Scott Jenney (52) posted his first Langbaurgh League half-century to help set a target of 239. Once again Thimbleby batted well but eventually fell well short on 187 (Jack Aldus, 3 for 25; Hilton Wordsworth, 3 for 48). Skelton Castle were in big trouble at 20 for 3, but an unbeaten 57 from Mike Gratton enabled the visitors to post a respectable target of 144 (Jack Aldus, 5 for 40). The Maltby reply was less than convincing and at 93 for 7 it appeared that Skelton would secure a rare victory. Simon Close (86*) batted extremely well, with a very inexperienced tail, to reach victory by two wickets. When Broughton visited on 1 September both clubs were still in the title race, but the loser would be unable to catch the league leaders. Alex Baines took 5 for 54 as Broughton scored 207 for 8. Chris Hall took three outfield catches. An opening stand of 119 between Chris Hall (52) and Chris Barber (78) gave Maltby every chance of victory but with three wickets falling for just one run (184 for 5) the odds swung back towards Broughton. Thirteen year old Richard Hodgson survived 16 deliveries before stroking the 17th through mid off for four. Maltby won by three wickets. Eight of the nine batsmen used made double figure contributions as Maltby set an imposing 240 for 7 at Kirby Sigston. Paul Frank (61) top scored. The previous year Maltby had failed to defend a total of 221 at Kirby Sigston – a defeat that effectively cost the club the 2006 league title. It was this knowledge that inspired Chris Francis (31*) and Paul Hornsby (23*) to add 45 for the 8th wicket. David Thompson continued his fine form finally falling in the 35th over for 106. This was David’s second century against Maltby leaving him one behind his father, John Thompson. The loss of David’s wicket proved crucial and the Sigston innings finished on 215 for 7. Chris Francis claimed four victims behind the stumps. The final weekend of the season saw Crathorne four points ahead of East Harlsey at the top of the table. The title was officially beyond Maltby. Harlsey won, while Crathorne lost at Kirby Sigston leaving the two teams to share the title. Maltby, guaranteed of third place, went to Stafford Place who had to win to avoid the risk of relegation. Chris Hall (72) continued his run of form against Stafford and with 59 from Hilton Wordsworth the team set an imposing target of 211. Matthew Crofts (6*) and Jordan Campbell (2*) made their Langbaurgh League debuts. Stafford Scored freely and despite Alex Baines taking 7 for 82, Stafford reached the target with 9 balls to spare. It all ended in darkness, but Stafford had preserved their Division 1 status. It was a poor year in cup competitions except that defeat in round 1 of the Mrs Gjers cup qualified the team for the George Clemmit Memorial Cup. Scruton were brushed aside in the first round. Chris Hall (31*) and David Lamb (37*) making short work of a target of 72. Liam Dawes took 3 for 9. In the semi-final visitors East Harlsey were restricted to 103 for 8 (Brodie Milichap, 3 for 23; Jordan Campbell, 2 for 9). Salim Khan top scored with 35 as Maltby won by 7 wickets. In the final at Norton on 9 September Maltby came up against Broughton and Kirby again. The three very competitive league fixtures had produced one win each and a tie. A good crowd gathered at Norton for what would prove to be a classic game of cricket. The two captains had agreed that the game would be played over 30 overs. Broughton batted first and made steady progress towards a total of 170. Jack Aldus took 4 for 42 (the best bowling in the competition), while Chris Francis claimed 5 victims behind the stumps. Maltby’s reply started badly with Salim Khan running himself out for 2 and then Chris Hall being stumped without scoring. It was Hilton Wordsworth (56) and David Lamb (33) who restored hope. When both were out in quick succession Maltby were on 107 with 8 overs to go. Alex Baines (6) was run by a direct hit to bring Jack Aldus to the wicket. Jack’s 24, including a magnificent six into a garden and long leg, seemed to be turning the game back in Maltby’s favour. At the start of the final over Maltby needed five to win. Chris Francis (16*) hit the first ball towards the pavilion where it landed an agonising few feet short of 6. This tied the game with five balls to go and two wickets in hand. The second ball was a dot ball and Chris pushed the third ball just wide of Roger Briddock and mid-on. Jack Aldus was run out. This brought Paul Hornsby to the wicket with three balls to go. Howard Leng pinned Paul in front of his stumps and was given out LBW. The game was tied. The replay was played on 23 September at Crathorne over the original 22 over format. Scott Jenney (63) blasted the ball to all parts of the ground as did Salim Khan (34). Hilton Wordsworth top scored with 65* (the best in the competition) as Maltby set a daunting target of 206 for 3. Broughton gave it a go, but lost wickets on a regular basis. This loss of momentum left them on 144 for 4 and Maltby won the George Clemmit Memorial Cup. Scott Jenney was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

End of season report Under 15s
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2008-01-07 17:39:37

Maltby U15s 2007. The 2007 started with a bowling performance to forget. 42 extras helped Middlesbrough score 113! Middlesbrough kindly donated 51 back! Despite an excellent 30 from Phil Horsman, Middlesbrough won by 1 run! In 2006 the U15s had won only 2 games so it came as something of a shock when Marton were restricted to just 71 runs. An excellent partnership between Liam Dawes (21*) and Dan Jackson (46*) produced an 8-wicket victory. Joe Foley (17) top scored against Marske but the total of 56 seemed inadequate. An excellent bowling and fielding performance put Marske under pressure and they lost six wickets before securing victory with just three balls to spare. In a high scoring game Great Ayton set a target of 142 (without loss). Dan Jackson hit a rapid 51 before Phil Horsman (24*) and Dan Francis (15*) secured victory by 6 wickets. Runs came easily against Billingham. Dan Crofts (36), Dan Jackson (50*) and Liam Dawes (46*) made batting look easy. Jake Allen couldn’t wait to get in. A scorer’s error meant that Dan Jackson was sent back to the middle having retired 3 runs too early. Jake had just taken guard! A couple of balls later Jake was back, only to be clean bowled first ball. Phil Horsman (28*) added to Billingham’s misery as Maltby reached 184. Dan Jackson and Phil Horsman both took two wickets as Billingham were all out for 37. After three wins and two very close defeats it was a confident side that went to Normanby Hall on 3 June. Sadly the batting fell apart due mainly to some excellent bowling by Normanby Hall. Normanby knocked off the required runs (64) without loss. The following week Normanby visited Maltby in the first of the season’s cup games. Normanby exuded confidence and set Maltby a target of 104. Greg Oxley took 2 for 18. Dan Jackson (50*) and Jake Allen (35*) lead Maltby to an 8 wicket win. It was then that the rains came and disrupted the rest of the season. Cup games had to be replayed and the league committee decreed that all games had to be played by the end of middle of August. Dan Jackson (43*) was again in the runs against Stokesley but Maltby fell well short of the 157 target. Guisborough also proved too strong, scoring 116 without loss before restricting Maltby to 87. In a rain interrupted game at Saltburn the team struggled to make progress. Liam Dawes (18) and Phil Horsman (15) were the only double figure contributions to a total of 78. Saltburn won by 9 wickets. Maltby completed the double over Great Ayton. Phil Horsman (51*) batted with great control as Maltby passed the target of 91. Harry Almond and Dan Crofts had both taken 3 Great Ayton wickets. Guisborough proved too strong again, setting a target of 139. Dan Francis (25), Dan Crofts (21) and Dan Jackson (18) all made good contributions but Maltby could only reach 99. The final fixture was at Redcar on a very cold and wet evening. The holiday season meant that Maltby’s team included several inexperienced players and Redcar made full use of the varied bowling attack and set an impressive 167 for 3. Jack Sullivan and Josh McCaskill both took a wicket. Phil Horsman batted beautifully and retired on 50. When the ‘last’ wicket fell Phil was allowed to return and ended unbeaten on 61. Overall, an encouraging season with several players performing well at both under 15 and senior levels. Phil Horsman was awarded the Jack Hatfield Trophy as most promising junior,

Ladies and Gents...

As you all know we are committed to improving the facilities at the club and our plans to redevelop the clubhouse are under way! Over the festive period some strong chaps with way too much spare time made a start on making the internal alterations ie Knocking things down! Part of the plan is to remodel the gents toilet and relocate the ladies (hence the snappy title). What we could really do with is some help from a reliable plumber who has no need of a stetson or a horse. So if there are any club members who know of such a man that could give us a hand please get in touch via the website or one of the coaches. Otherwise we are afraid we may be left with nothing to go on... Many thanks.

COULD YOU BE PART OF THE MALTBY TEAM?
Submitted by: Phil Taylor
2008-01-18 09:45:52

As you may well know there is more to Maltby Cricket Club than taking the field on a balmy summers afternoon. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to maintain the family atmosphere that makes Maltby such a great club to be part of. Much of that work is done by willing volunteers and we would be stumped (groan...) without them. To that end we are looking for anyone who could spare some time to fulfil the role (should that be fill the rolls?) of our tea ladies who are crucial on match days. Enthusiasm is more important than experience and you really don't need to be Delia to help. If you can spare some time please get in touch with one of the club officers or coaches via the website or phone.

Anyone who has read any cracker jokes over Christmas may have got the pun already. We are in need of a secretary as Tracy is sadly having to step down. If you feel you have the enthusiasm to help out in this vital club role then we would love to hear from you. There are some computer skills required and as you will be a club official you need to be over eighteen years of age. Despite the witty title you don't need any other special skills. If you feel able to help out please get in touch with Martin Barber, even if you would just like a little more information before you commit yourself. Most meetings are held in the Fox Covert by the way...

CHAIRMANS REPORT 2007
Submitted by: Martin Barber
2008-01-29 16:37:19

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2007 We will look back on 2007 as a year of change for our Cricket Club. On the playing side we took the difficult decision to dispense with mid week cricket for adults. We decided instead to concentrate resources, especially ground staff, on weekend cricket. Opinions in the Club were divided on whether it was the correct course to take but having spoken to the groundsmen I know that it was a major reduction in their work load enabling them to spend more time on weekend duties. The results were readily visible and our ground continues to look superb and has attracted very many compliments. Even so we are still not satisfied and David Cook and John Stringer spent almost a full week in September scarifying the square. We are hoping for a further improvement in the playing surface in 2008. I very much hope the players respect and appreciate the effort put in by these two. We are very lucky to have their enthusiasm and expertise at our disposal. I am aware there are some for whom the wicket is not to their liking. I have to say that in my opinion it is the best it can possibly be given the financial resources available. As a small cricket club we have financial constraints and maintaining a cricket facility is not cheap. For example at the end of 2007 we obtained a quote to properly remove the thatch that has left the wicket slower than we would like. The cost would have been £10,000, clearly beyond our means, that is unless we levy a membership fee of £400 or thereabouts. We made significant progress with the addition of our all weather double bay practice area. The full cost was £25,000 and we were delighted to receive financial support from Awards for All, Ingleby Barwick Town Council and the Ropner Trust. The facility has already been well used and it is a major asset for our coaches and players alike. As for cricket we again enjoyed significant success. Our first eleven almost won the league and secured the George Clemitt Trophy in a replayed final following a tie in the first game. The second eleven tripled their number of victories from the previous season and in 2007 we had far fewer problems in fielding twenty two players each weekend. Our decision to field two teams in the Langbaurgh league has been a huge success. It seems that the League Management Committee are now beginning to see the lack of vision in their original suggestion that our request be turned down. Where Maltby lead others follow and in 2008 there may be four Clubs with second teams. Our youth development policy has been a fantastic success and our youngsters are now starting to achieve great things in senior cricket. There were several very good performances. The challenges facing us in 2008 are large and we have exciting plans. Through the generosity of Club benefactors we will have an improved pavilion with a bar for after match relaxation. Last year’s Tees Valley Community Foundation grant has been spent on further improving our practice facilities and for the coming season we will have mobile net cages to enable grass practice. We are also hopeful that the donations needed to top up the score board fund will materialize and that our score box will also be available for the new season. All in all 2008 promises to be one of spectacular off field progress. A further challenge is to ensure that we keep the players happy and focused on their job which is to enjoy their cricket whilst playing within the spirit of this great game. Success must surely follow. A thriving and successful Club needs commitment from the members as well as a sound financial footing. With this in mind the committee have been working extremely hard considering how our Club might be sustained (without recourse to grant assistance). Revised membership rules and subscriptions will be proposed at the AGM and I urge you to attend to air your views. Finally a word of thanks to everyone who worked so hard to maintain the Cricket Club during these exciting times. I have already mentioned the Ground Staff and can add to that those other volunteers, our ladies, who under the general stewardship of Janet Hornsby continued to provide excellent refreshments. Sadly Janet has decided to step down and on the committees behalf I thank her for her efforts. I understand there is a ladies night planned to discuss how the catering will work for 2008. If there are any volunteers out there please contact Sue on 01642 590657. The committee met each month in 2007 and reviewed every mad cap scheme I have put before them with humour and good grace. They continue to work hard for the benefit of all Club members and I hope that the new committee will carry on the good work in 2008. I look forward to a successful and exciting 2008 for the whole Club. Good luck to you all. Regards. M Barber Hon Chairman

SUGGESTED CHANGES TO CLUB CONSTITUTION
Submitted by: Chris Francis

Maltby Cricket Club Rules and Constitution Proposed amendments for 2008 AGM The club committee have been working hard to develop the club and as a result of this work the committee are recommending various changes to the club’s rules and constitution. These will be voted on at the club’s Annual General Meeting on 13 February. This document is designed to help members understand these proposals and the impact that they will have on the club and individual members. The rule changes can be broken down into four distinct themes and these are explained in turn. 1. CASC requirements Proposed to bring the club’s rules and constitution in line with recommendations for Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC). This allows the club to claim a tax refund on donations received by the club (provided that the donor is willing and able to sign a gift aid form). This increases the value of every pound donated by 28p. You will see from the 2007 accounts that this was worth over £2000. We have made these changes to satisfy Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) that we do qualify as a CASC club. We have already been given CASC status on the grounds that we make these changes. 2. Club Premises License Proposed to bring the club’s rules and constitution in line with recommendations for Club Premises Licenses. Work is currently underway to extend the tea room area within the pavilion. The committee would like to install a bar facility as a service to members and to raise additional revenue. To enable the club to sell alcohol we will be applying for a Club Premises License. Stockton Borough Council has given guidance to the committee regarding our rules and constitution. These proposed changes will meet the Council’s requirements for this application. 3. Maltby Committee Structure Proposed to create a sub-committee structure within the club. As the club has grown, the amount of work has increased and this has placed greater demands of the general committee. The plan is to share this work load by establishing three sub-committees. These rule changes will clarify the role of these sub-committees and their relationship with the general committee. 4. Club Membership Proposed to create a range of membership categories. The general committee have reviewed our membership categories and considered the charges that we currently make for membership of the club. The committee feel that we under value the services that we offer. If we are going to fund all of our basic activities we need to consider these charges. The committee are recommending the following structure. Membership Categories Status Voting Membership Fee Playing Fee Match Fee Ordinary Ordinary plus partner as Associate Member 1 Vote £40 £60 Yes U17 Junior plus 1 adult as an Associate member No Vote £25 £60 No U15 Junior plus 1 adult as an Associate member No Vote £20 £60 No Juniors Junior plus 1 adult as an Associate member No Vote £15 £60 No Family One Ordinary One Associate plus Juniors 1 Vote £50 £60 No Associate Associate No Vote £10 n/a n/a Patron Ordinary 1 Vote £120 £60 Yes Notes: Family members pay £60 playing fee to cover all family members. Patrons make a minimum donation of £10 per month. Match fees would continue for all senior fixtures. No match fees would be charged for junior fixtures or junior outdoor practice sessions Full details of the impact of these proposals to the annual cost of being a playing member at Maltby will be tables at the AGM. It is envisaged that these will add approximately £30 to the cost of juniors and £60 for seniors. The committee feel that this still offers excellent value for money and more accurately reflects the cost of running the club. 1. CASC Requirements. Insert new rule 2. 2. PERMITTED MEANS OF ADVANCING THE PURPOSES The Committee has the power to: 2.1. acquire and provide grounds, equipment, coaching, training and playing facilities, clubhouse, transport, medical and related facilities; 2.2. provide coaching, training, medical treatment, and related social and other facilities; 2.3. take out any insurance for club, employees, contractors, players, guests and third parties; 2.4. raise funds by appeals, subscriptions, loans and charges; 2.5. borrow money and give security for the same, and open bank accounts; 2.6. buy, lease or licence property and sell, let or otherwise dispose of the same; 2.7. make grants and loans and give guarantees and provide other benefits; 2.8. set aside funds for special purposes or as reserves; 2.9. invest funds in any lawful manner; 2.10. employ and engage staff and others and provide services; 2.11. co-operate with or affiliate to firstly any bodies regulating or organising the Sport and secondly any club or body involved with it and thirdly with government and related agencies; 2.12. do all other things reasonably necessary to advance the purposes; NONE of the above powers may be used other than to advance the purposes consistently with the Rules below and the general law. Insert addition to rule 4 (currently rule 3): 4. Cricket Force Weekend
Submitted by: Chris Francis
2008-03-18 13:07:05

It’s that time of year again! Cricket Force 2008 takes place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April. The event was a great success in 2005 and 2007 and we are asking for your help to make the 2008 event our best yet. As many of you will know the pavilion is currently being modified and a new garage needs to be constructed. That’s on top of the usual cleaning, painting, weeding and hedge trimming that needs to be done. We hope that you will be able to join us for all or part of the event, which takes place over the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April. Work will start at 10.30 on each day (although this will clash with cricket coaching sessions for some age groups). We will aim to finish by 5pm. Just turn up wearing working clothes and committee members will allocate suitable tasks. Last time we had participants aged 7 to 77 so feel free to bring along all family members to lend a hand. You know it makes sense! There’s even a FREE Cricket Force T-shirt for all those who take part! The club committee will be meeting in a few weeks time to finalise the tasks. Let’s hope for excellent weather and a good turn out. If you have any questions give me a call on 0191 416 2836. Thank you in advance for your support.

Umpiring Course
Submitted by: Chris Francis

Details of an umpiring course at Hutton Rudby on 7 April. I will attend, but as you will see the invitation is for more than one. It would be good to get some of our umpires to attend. The invitation is from Bernard Newman as follows; In order to get a more consistent standard of umpiring within our league, it has been decided that we should hold a meeting for all Clubs, when two qualified umpires will give a talk (and answer questions) on the basic rules of Cricket and how to ensure we all are consistent in applying the rules. It is hoped that each club sends at least one representative (the more the better) to the meeting to be held at Hutton Rudby C C on Monday 7th April at 7.30pm Please contact Chris if you wish to reserve a place.
